Behaviour Approach
Behaviour Vision Statement
At Epsom Primary School, we follow a restorative and trauma-informed behaviour approach that encourages a culture of compassion, understanding, and growth for all members of our school community. Inspired by the transformative work of Paul Dix (When the Adults Change, Everything Changes), and as a proud partner school, our vision is to create a safe and inclusive environment where every pupil feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Our staff build strong, trusting relationships with our pupils, rooted in empathy and respect. We understand that behaviour is communication and often reflects underlying needs and experiences. Through a trauma-informed lens, we seek to create a school that recognises and responds to these diverse challenges with kindness and consistency.
We use restorative practices to promote accountability and shared responsibility. Restorative conversations and interventions support students in repairing harm, restoring relationships, and rebuilding trust. Our behaviour approach is proactive as well as responsive, helping pupils to feel a strong sense of belonging and encouraging personal growth.
We actively celebrate and recognise positive behaviour through regular assemblies, reward postcards, and positive noticing from all staff. This reinforces our belief in catching children doing the right thing and building intrinsic motivation. In addition, our staff receive ongoing training to deepen their understanding and confidence in using restorative and trauma-informed strategies.
We work closely with pupils, families, and staff through our 360 plans, which provide clear behaviour targets and personalised strategies to help children succeed. Our Orchard Provision, led by our dedicated wellbeing and inclusion team, offers additional support to embed these plans and ensure consistency across school life.
Our commitment extends beyond managing behaviour—it is about building the social, emotional, and relational skills our children need to thrive. We believe in equipping our pupils with self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving tools that will serve them far beyond their time with us.
Together, we aspire to be a beacon of restorative practice, sharing our journey, learning from others, and helping shape a more compassionate future for education. At Epsom Primary School, every person shines.
