Safeguarding

The Bourne Education Trust and Epsom Primary and Nursery School are committed to safeguarding and promoting the physical, mental and emotional welfare of every pupil, both inside and outside of our schools’ premises. We implement a trust-wide preventative approach to managing safeguarding concerns, ensuring that the wellbeing of pupils is at the forefront of all action taken and that healthy relationships are promoted. The trust is also committed to a zero-tolerance policy with regards to sexual harassment and violence.

How We Keep Children Safe

All staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training.

Safer recruitment practices ensure all adults working with children are suitable.

Children are taught how to stay safe through PSHE lessons, assemblies, and online safety activities.

We work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to support pupil wellbeing.

Support for Looked After Children

We recognise that children who are looked after (or previously looked after) may need additional support in school to help them feel safe, settled, and able to achieve their best.

At Epsom Primary and Nursery School:

The Designated Teacher works closely with the DSL, parents/carers, social workers, and the Virtual School to ensure every child has the right support.

We make sure that Personal Education Plans (PEPs) are kept up to date and focus on academic progress, wellbeing, and enrichment opportunities.

Staff receive training to understand the needs of looked after children, including attachment and trauma awareness.

If you would like more information about how we support looked after children, please contact Mrs Julie Clark via the school office.

Young Carers

At Epsom primary and Nursery School, we are committed to supporting all young carers so that they can access and enjoy their education in full. We recognise that young carers may face additional challenges in attending, achieving, and participating in school life. Our school believes that every child has the right to learn and thrive, regardless of their caring responsibilities at home.

For further information about our support for young carers please email our DSL, Mrs O'Neil or call the school using the number above.
