English as an Additional Language

At Epsom Primary and Nursery School, we have additional specialist staff and resources enable us to support families where English is an ‘Additional Language’, helping children to achieve alongside others in our community.

We are proud of our families’ willingness to share their native skills and information on home cultures with us fostering a sense of belonging.

EAL Buddies

To help new children who join our school, where English is not their first native language, we have an EAL Buddy Scheme.  Our Buddies have been chosen by their teachers for always be kind and welcoming.

"The needs of pupils who join the school during the year, especially those whose first language is not, or believed not to be English, are very well met because leaders have prioritised language specialist support. Pupils quickly learn to speak English and are able to access all areas of the curriculum as a result."
