Geography

Geography encourages children to make sense of the world around them by exploring places, people, and environments. Pupils learn about their local area, the wider UK, and the world beyond, developing knowledge of human and physical geography.

Our Curriculum

Geography is taught through enquiry-based topics that develop geographical knowledge alongside map skills, fieldwork, and critical thinking. Each year group revisits and builds upon core themes such as place, space, environment, and sustainability.

Examples from our curriculum include:

  • ReceptionOutdoor Adventures and Around the World
  • Year 1What is it like here? and What is the weather like in the UK?
  • Year 2Would you prefer to live in a hot or cold place? and Why is our world wonderful?
  • Year 3Who lives in Antarctica? and Are all settlements the same?
  • Year 4Where does our food come from? and Why are rainforests important to us?
  • Year 5Would you like to live in a desert? and Why do oceans matter?
  • Year 6Why does population change? and Where does our energy come from?

Government Guidance and Statutory Requirements

Geography is a statutory subject of the National Curriculum. Our curriculum equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources, and natural and human environments. It also helps children develop geographical skills such as using maps, atlases, globes, digital mapping, and fieldwork enquiry.
