Skills and Knowledge Progression with Purple Mash
Our Computing curriculum uses Purple Mash to provide a clear pathway of skills and knowledge from EYFS to Year 6. Concepts are revisited and built upon – for example, moving from simple algorithms to complex programs or from basic image editing to creating multi-layered graphics. Pupils develop secure understanding of sequencing, selection, variables, data handling and online safety.

Innovation and Creative Application
Purple Mash inspires pupils to become creators and problem-solvers. Projects often link with other subjects, giving real purpose to their learning. The platform’s flexibility allows for bespoke tasks that cater to different learning styles, encouraging experimentation, creativity and resilience through an iterative design process.

Physical Computing
Physical computing is throughout our curriculum, with pupils using Purple Mash to program devices like micro:bits. They learn how to control LEDs, motors and sensors, applying their coding skills to practical challenges such as traffic light systems. This hands-on work makes programming concepts tangible, strengthens problem-solving skills and shows how technology impacts everyday life.

Preparing for a Changing Digital World
Purple Mash equips children with the adaptability and critical thinking skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing digital landscape. By engaging with a broad range of tools, scenarios and problem-solving activities, pupils learn to respond to new technologies with curiosity, confidence and responsibility – ensuring they are not only ready for today’s challenges but also for the opportunities of the future.

Safeguarding Through Computing

Safeguarding is at the heart of our Computing curriculum. We use the Evolve Online Safety framework to teach children how to stay safe, respectful, and responsible when using technology. Lessons are carefully planned to cover topics such as online identity, privacy, cyberbullying, managing screen time, and recognising unsafe content or contact. By developing these skills from an early age, children learn how to make safe and informed choices online, while also understanding the importance of kindness, respect, and responsibility in the digital world.
