Art
We believe that Art is a powerful way for children to express themselves, explore ideas, and develop creativity. Through a rich and varied curriculum, pupils experiment with different media, study the work of artists and designers, and build confidence in their own artistic voice.
Our Curriculum
Art is taught through progressive units of work, with skills and knowledge revisited and extended each year. Children develop techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media while also learning about art in its historical and cultural contexts.
Examples from our curriculum include:
- Reception – Marvellous Marks
- Year 2 – Painting and Mixed Media: Life in Colour
- Year 4 – Painting and Mixed Media: Light and Dark
- Year 6 – Drawing: Make My Voice Heard
Through these units, children gain both technical skills and the ability to express ideas, feelings, and perspectives creatively.
Government Guidance and Statutory Requirements
Art is a statutory subject of the National Curriculum. Our programme ensures children are taught key artistic skills while also encouraging individual creativity and self-expression. Pupils learn to think critically about their own work and that of others, fostering a lifelong appreciation of art and design.
