PSHE

At Epsom Primary and Nursery School, the teaching of PSHE helps children to build upon the knowledge, skills and personal attributes they need to develop positive, respectful relationships and to develop strategies to support their own wellbeing. The Jigsaw scheme that we use to scaffold our teaching of PSHE and RSE is a whole school approach that strives to support children to be ambitious and reach their full potential in the present, whilst simultaneously helping them to feel prepared for life in the future by developing key life skills. Throughout our PSHE lessons at Epsom Primary and Nursery School, we aim for all children to feel represented by delivering lessons that are inclusive and representative of our diverse community.

The children work through six, core puzzle pieces each year; Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me, which embrace and reflect our school’s core values. These topics are age appropriate, sequential and progressive, which allows children to develop and build upon their knowledge and skills each year from Reception to Year 6. Each class has an evidence scrapbook that displays a range of work, quotes and photos that are representative of all children in the lesson, regardless of their attainment, SEN need or background.

As members of the wider community, we aim for our pupils to leave Epsom Primary and Nursery School as responsible, respectful and nurturing citizens, who are prepared and confident for the next stage of life and beyond. We aim to achieve this not only through our PSHE curriculum, but also through our whole school ethos and values.
