Year 6 explore the Amazon
Last Wednesday, our Year 6 pupils joined other schools around the UK for an Amazon adventure as part of their rainforest topic.
We used digital mapping to name and locate the rainforests and work out how far away the Amazon is. We also spent time thinking about what life is like for those who live in the Amazon and what our dreams for the Amazon are, considering the vast deforestation currently taking place. We finished the day by making our forest spirit. Have a look at Create2Inspire's blog post:
The pupils were then asked the following questions:
What do you think the Amazon will be like in 2050?
What now needs to be done in order to secure a positive future for the Amazon?
Is there anything that you could personally do?
The children responded willingly with some very profound answers, demonstrating that they had acquired much knowledge, in-depth understanding and new skills during our virtual adventure.
Pupils thoughts of the day:
"The workshop has inspired me to save the rainforest and try and go to visit the Amazon in the future."
"We have a massive impact on the rainforest and we need to do something about it."
"This has changed my opinions about geography."
